Simple Machines
Simple machines are basic mechanical devices that apply a force to a load to either move or change the direction of the force. There are six types of simple machines: lever, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, and screw. These machines are used in various maritime applications, such as lifting heavy cargo, moving equipment, and adjusting sails. For example, a pulley system can be used to hoist a sail up a mast, while a lever can be used to lift a heavy anchor. Simple machines make work easier by reducing the amount of force needed to accomplish a task.
