Shoal
A shoal is a shallow area of a body of water, such as a river, lake, or ocean, where the depth of the water is less than the surrounding area. Shoals can be composed of sand, gravel, or other materials and can be dangerous to ships as they can cause them to run aground. Shoals can also be home to a variety of marine life, making them popular fishing spots. Navigational charts often mark the location of shoals to help ships avoid them.
