Ship Security Plan
A Ship Security Plan (SSP) is a comprehensive document that outlines the procedures and measures a vessel should take to prevent and respond to potential security threats. It is a mandatory requirement under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, which was adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2002 in response to growing concerns about maritime security. The SSP is developed by the ship owner or operator and must be approved by the relevant maritime authority. It covers a range of areas including access control, security equipment, procedures for responding to security threats, training and drills, and the duties of the ship security officer. The SSP is a living document that should be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect changes in the security environment and the ship's operations. It plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the ship, its crew, and its cargo.
