Semaphore

Semaphore is a system of sending messages by holding the arms or two flags or paddles in certain positions according to an alphabetic code. Semaphore is a visual communication method that is used to convey information over a distance. Semaphore is an important communication method in the maritime industry, especially for ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communication. Semaphore flags are used to communicate messages such as navigational warnings, weather reports, and distress signals. Semaphore is still used today in some maritime organizations as a backup communication method in case of radio or other electronic communication failure.
