Seagrasses

Seagrasses are flowering plants that grow in shallow marine waters. They form extensive meadows in sheltered bays and lagoons, and provide important habitats for a diverse range of marine organisms. Seagrasses are adapted to live in saltwater environments and can tolerate a range of salinities. They play a crucial role in maintaining water quality by stabilizing sediments and absorbing nutrients. Seagrasses also provide important ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, oxygen production, and shoreline protection. However, seagrass meadows are under threat from human activities such as coastal development, pollution, and climate change.
