Scuttle
Scuttle refers to the act of deliberately sinking a ship by creating holes or opening sea valves in the hull. This is usually done to prevent the ship from falling into enemy hands, to collect insurance money, or to dispose of an old or damaged vessel. Scuttling can also be used as a means of creating an artificial reef for marine life. In naval warfare, scuttling can be a defensive tactic to prevent the enemy from capturing a ship and using it against its former owners. The process of scuttling involves opening the seacocks and other valves to allow water to flood the ship's compartments, causing it to sink.
