Scrubber

A scrubber is a device installed on ships to remove pollutants from exhaust gases before they are released into the atmosphere. It works by spraying a mixture of water and alkaline substances into the exhaust stream, which reacts with the sulfur oxides and other pollutants to form harmless compounds that can be safely discharged. Scrubbers are an effective way to reduce the environmental impact of shipping, as they can remove up to 98% of sulfur emissions and significantly reduce particulate matter. However, they require a significant amount of energy to operate and can be expensive to install and maintain.
