Rubrail

A rubrail is a strip of material, usually made of rubber or plastic, that runs along the outer edge of a boat's hull. Its purpose is to protect the hull from damage caused by contact with other boats, docks, or other objects. Rubrails are typically installed at the waterline or just above it, and they may be reinforced with metal or other materials to provide additional strength. In addition to protecting the hull, rubrails can also serve as a decorative element, with many boats featuring rubrails that are color-coordinated with the rest of the vessel.
