Ribband
In maritime context, a ribband is a temporary longitudinal member fitted to the outside of a ship's frames to hold them in position while the shell plating is attached. It is usually made of wood or steel and runs the length of the ship. The ribband is used to ensure that the frames are properly aligned and spaced before the plating is attached, which is essential for the structural integrity of the ship. Once the plating is in place, the ribband is removed. The process of fitting the ribband is known as ribbanding.
