Residual Fuel

Residual fuel, also known as bunker fuel, is a heavy, viscous fuel oil that is left over after the refining process of lighter fuels such as gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. It is commonly used as fuel for large marine vessels, such as cargo ships and tankers, due to its high energy density and low cost. Residual fuel is graded according to its viscosity, with higher grades being more difficult to pump and burn. However, it is also known to contain high levels of sulfur and other pollutants, which can have negative environmental impacts. As a result, there are regulations in place to limit the sulfur content of residual fuel used in certain areas, such as within Emission Control Areas (ECAs).
