Port Facility Security Officer

A Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) is a designated authority responsible for the development, implementation, revision, and maintenance of the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP). The PFSO ensures the application of security measures in accordance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The ISPS Code is a comprehensive set of measures to enhance the security of ships and port facilities, developed in response to the perceived threats to ships and port facilities in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the United States. The PFSO's duties include conducting regular security inspections of the port facility to ensure the continuation of appropriate security measures, coordinating the implementation of the PFSP with appropriate company and contracting government agency security officers, and enhancing the awareness and vigilance of port facility personnel. The PFSO also reports all security incidents, coordinates with security services, and ensures the security of the information contained in the PFSP.
