Pilot

A pilot is a mariner who is specially trained to navigate ships through dangerous or congested waters, such as harbors or river mouths. Pilots are usually hired by the port authorities or shipping companies to ensure the safe passage of vessels. They have extensive knowledge of local waterways, tides, currents, and weather conditions. Pilots board the ship before it enters the port and take control of the navigation until it is safely docked. They work closely with the ship's captain and crew to ensure that the ship is maneuvered safely and efficiently. Pilots are essential for the safe and efficient operation of ports and shipping channels.
