Peak
In maritime context, peak refers to the uppermost point of a ship's hull at the bow and stern. The bow peak is also known as the forepeak and the stern peak is known as the afterpeak. These areas are used for storage of various materials such as water, fuel, and ballast. The forepeak is also used for storing the anchor chain and the windlass machinery. The afterpeak is used for storing the steering gear and the emergency tiller. The peaks are separated from the cargo holds by watertight bulkheads to prevent any leakage or flooding from spreading to other parts of the ship.
