Mole

In maritime context, a mole is a massive structure, usually made of stone, concrete, or steel, that extends from the shore into the water and serves as a breakwater or a jetty. It is designed to protect vessels from waves and currents and to provide a stable platform for loading and unloading cargo. Moles can be either connected to the shore or detached from it, and they can be straight or curved depending on the local conditions. They are often equipped with fenders, bollards, and other mooring devices to secure the ships. Moles are essential components of many ports and harbors, and their construction and maintenance require specialized engineering skills and equipment.
