MDO (DO)

MDO (Marine Diesel Oil) or DO (Diesel Oil) is a type of fuel oil used in marine diesel engines. It is a blend of gasoil and heavy fuel oil, with less gasoil than intermediate fuel oil (IFO) but more than marine gasoil (MGO). MDO has a lower viscosity and density than heavy fuel oil, making it easier to handle and burn more cleanly. It is commonly used in smaller vessels, such as fishing boats and coastal tankers, as well as in auxiliary engines on larger ships. MDO is also used as a backup fuel for ships that primarily run on heavy fuel oil, as it can be used in the same engines without requiring any modifications.
