Loftsman
A loftsman is a skilled worker who is responsible for creating full-sized patterns, called lofting, from scaled drawings of a ship's components. The loftsman uses mathematical calculations and specialized tools to transfer the dimensions of the drawings onto large sheets of paper or other materials. These patterns are then used by shipbuilders to cut and shape the various parts of the ship, such as the hull, decks, and superstructure. The loftsman's work is critical to ensuring that the ship is built to the correct specifications and that all of the components fit together properly.
