Lofting

Lofting is a process used in shipbuilding to create a full-scale drawing of a vessel's hull and superstructure. It involves taking the ship's design and creating a series of two-dimensional cross-sections, or 'moulds', which are then used to shape the ship's frame and planking. The process of lofting allows shipbuilders to accurately translate a designer's plans into a physical vessel, taking into account the complex curves and angles of the hull. Lofting is typically done on a large, flat surface called a 'loft floor', using a combination of manual measurements and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
