Lightening Hole

A lightening hole is a hole that is drilled or stamped into a metal structure, such as a ship's hull or deck, to reduce weight without compromising strength. These holes are strategically placed in areas where they will not weaken the structure, and are often found in bulkheads, frames, and other load-bearing components. Lightening holes are commonly used in shipbuilding to reduce the weight of the vessel, which can improve speed, fuel efficiency, and maneuverability. However, the placement and size of these holes must be carefully calculated to ensure that the structural integrity of the ship is not compromised.
