Law Of The Sea

The Law of the Sea is a body of international law that governs the rights and responsibilities of states in their use of the world's oceans, establishing guidelines for businesses, the environment, and the management of marine natural resources. It defines the limits of a state's territorial waters, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone, and continental shelf. The Law of the Sea also regulates marine scientific research, fishing, navigation, and the protection of marine life. It is a complex and constantly evolving area of law that is governed by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which was adopted in 1982 and has been ratified by 168 countries.
