Hogged

Hogged is a term used to describe a condition of a vessel where the keel and/or the deck have a permanent upward curvature due to excessive weight or structural weakness. This condition can affect the seaworthiness of the vessel and cause problems such as reduced stability, increased resistance, and poor maneuverability. Hogging is a common problem in older vessels that have been subjected to heavy loads or inadequate maintenance. To prevent hogging, vessels should be designed and constructed to withstand the loads they are likely to encounter, and regular inspections and maintenance should be carried out to ensure that the structure remains sound.
