Fidley Deck

The Fidley Deck is a raised platform on the upper deck of a ship, located near the base of the funnel. It is used to provide access to the funnel for maintenance and to protect the deck from the heat of the funnel. The Fidley Deck is also used as a lookout point for the ship's crew to observe the surrounding area. It is typically made of steel and is designed to withstand the high temperatures and harsh conditions associated with the ship's propulsion system.
