Dowel

In maritime context, a dowel is a cylindrical pin made of wood or metal that is used to fasten two or more pieces of timber or metal together. Dowels are commonly used in shipbuilding to join planks or frames together. They are inserted into pre-drilled holes and secured with glue or bolts. Dowels provide a strong and durable joint that can withstand the stresses of the sea. They are also used in the construction of masts and spars to reinforce joints and provide additional strength. Dowels are an important component in the construction of wooden boats and ships, and their use has been documented in maritime history for centuries.
