Double Skin
Double Skin is a type of ship construction where the hull consists of two parallel steel walls with a space in between. The space between the walls is filled with water or foam, which provides additional protection against collision and grounding. Double Skin construction is considered to be safer than single skin construction, as it reduces the risk of oil spills and environmental damage in case of an accident. It also provides better insulation, which can reduce fuel consumption and emissions. However, Double Skin construction is more expensive and requires more maintenance than single skin construction.
