Dolphin

In maritime context, Dolphin refers to a type of mooring structure consisting of a group of piles driven into the seabed and bound together at the top with a horizontal beam. Dolphins are used to secure vessels, such as ships and barges, in place and prevent them from drifting away from a dock or pier. They are commonly found in ports, harbors, and other marine facilities where vessels need to be berthed or loaded/unloaded. Dolphins can be made of wood, concrete, steel, or a combination of these materials, depending on the specific requirements of the location and the size of the vessels to be moored. The design and construction of dolphins must take into account the local environmental conditions, such as wave and current forces, as well as the weight and size of the vessels that will be using them.
