Decompression Sickness

Decompression sickness (DCS) is a condition that occurs when a diver or a person working in a high-pressure environment surfaces too quickly, causing the nitrogen gas in the body to form bubbles. These bubbles can cause a range of symptoms, including joint pain, fatigue, dizziness, and shortness of breath. In severe cases, DCS can lead to paralysis, unconsciousness, and even death. The condition is treated by administering oxygen and recompression therapy, which involves returning the patient to a high-pressure environment to force the nitrogen bubbles back into solution. DCS can be prevented by following proper dive tables, ascending slowly, and taking safety stops during ascent.
