Dead Rise
Dead rise refers to the upward curvature of a vessel's hull from the keel to the bilge. It is the angle at which the hull rises from the keel towards the centerline of the vessel. Dead rise is an important factor in determining a vessel's stability, speed, and seaworthiness. A vessel with a greater dead rise will have a sharper V-shaped hull, which allows it to cut through waves more easily and provides a smoother ride in rough seas. However, a vessel with too much dead rise may be less stable and more prone to rolling. Dead rise is typically measured in degrees, with higher degrees indicating a greater angle of curvature.
