Conning Tower

A conning tower is a raised platform on a submarine or ship, often armored, from which an officer can direct operations and observe the surrounding area. It is usually located above the main deck and provides a clear view of the surrounding sea. The conning tower is an important part of the ship's command and control system, and is used for navigation, communication, and observation. It is also used for launching and recovering small boats, and for deploying and retrieving underwater sensors and other equipment. The conning tower is typically equipped with a periscope, radar, and other sensors to provide situational awareness to the crew.
