Chafing Plate

A chafing plate is a metal plate or strip that is used to protect a rope or cable from wear and tear caused by rubbing against a rough surface. It is typically made of a hard, durable material such as steel or bronze and is attached to the surface using screws or bolts. Chafing plates are commonly used on ships to protect mooring lines from damage caused by rubbing against the dock or other structures. They are also used on sailboats to protect the sails and rigging from damage caused by rubbing against the mast or other parts of the boat.
