Centre Of Flotation (CF)

Centre of Flotation (CF) is the geometric centre of the underwater portion of a floating object's hull. It is the point at which the forces of buoyancy, or the upward force of the water displaced by the hull, act upon the hull. The location of the CF is important in determining the stability of a vessel, as it affects the vessel's ability to resist capsizing and maintain an upright position. The CF is also used in calculating the vessel's trim, or the difference in draft between the bow and stern. In general, a vessel with a lower CF will be more stable, while a vessel with a higher CF will be less stable.
