Centerboard

A centerboard, also known as a daggerboard, is a retractable keel that is used to provide lateral resistance to a sailing vessel. It is typically made of wood or fiberglass and is located in the center of the boat's hull. The centerboard can be lowered into the water to increase the boat's lateral resistance, which helps to prevent the boat from sliding sideways. It can also be raised when sailing in shallow waters or when the boat is being docked. The size and shape of the centerboard can vary depending on the size and type of the boat, as well as the sailing conditions.
