Center Of Buoyancy

The center of buoyancy is the geometric center of the displaced volume of water by a floating vessel. It is the point where the upward buoyant force, which is equal to the weight of the water displaced by the vessel, acts vertically upward. The position of the center of buoyancy changes as the vessel is loaded, trimmed, or heeled. It is an important parameter in naval architecture as it affects the stability and motion characteristics of the vessel. A vessel with a low center of buoyancy is more stable and has less tendency to roll, while a vessel with a high center of buoyancy is less stable and more prone to rolling.
