Camel
In maritime context, a camel is a floating structure used for lifting vessels over shoals or other obstructions in a river or harbour. It consists of a rectangular pontoon with a sloping deck on one end, and a tower or crane on the other end. The pontoon is sunk under the vessel to be lifted, and then water is pumped out of the pontoon, causing it to rise and lift the vessel out of the water. Camels are commonly used in areas with large tidal ranges or shallow waters, where vessels may become stranded or unable to navigate. They are also used for ship repairs and maintenance.
