Bunkering

Bunkering is the process of supplying fuel to a ship for its own consumption. This includes the transfer of fuel from a bunker station or barge to the ship's fuel tanks. Bunkering can take place while the ship is at port or at sea. The quantity of fuel required for bunkering depends on the ship's size, speed, and distance to be covered. Bunkering operations must be carried out with utmost care to prevent spillage or contamination of the fuel. The quality of the fuel supplied must also meet the standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the ship's engines.
