Bowsprit

A bowsprit is a spar extending forward from the bow of a ship. It is used to attach the forestay, which is a large wire rope that supports the mast. The bowsprit also provides a point for the attachment of other rigging, such as the jib and flying jib. In addition, it can be used as a platform for sailors to work on when setting or furling sails. Bowsprits are typically made of wood or metal and can vary in length depending on the size of the ship. They were commonly used on sailing ships, but are now primarily found on traditional and historical vessels.
