Bowsprit
A bowsprit is a spar extending forward from the bow of a ship. It is used to attach the forestay, which is a large wire rope that supports the mast. The bowsprit also provides a point for the attachment of other rigging, such as the jib and flying jib. In addition, it can be used as a platform for sailors to work on when setting or furling sails.
