Bellows

Bellows is a device used on ships to provide a continuous supply of air to the fire in the boiler. It consists of a flexible bag made of leather or canvas, which is expanded and contracted by the movement of a lever. As the bag expands, air is drawn in through a one-way valve, and as it contracts, the air is forced out through another valve into the fire. Bellows are an essential component of the boiler system on steam-powered ships, as they ensure that the fire is supplied with enough oxygen to maintain combustion.
