Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are organic chemicals that have a high vapor pressure at room temperature. They are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids and can have harmful effects on human health and the environment. In the maritime context, VOCs are commonly found in paints, coatings, and cleaning agents used on ships. These compounds can contribute to air pollution and have been linked to respiratory problems, as well as damage to marine ecosystems.
