Ultrasonic Testing
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is a non-destructive testing method that uses high frequency sound waves to detect internal flaws or discontinuities within a material. In the maritime context, UT is commonly used to inspect the thickness of a ship's hull, as well as to detect cracks, corrosion, and other defects in critical components such as propeller shafts, rudder stocks, and welds. UT works by sending a pulse of sound waves into the material being tested, and then measuring the time it takes for the waves to bounce back. By analyzing the reflected waves, UT can provide information about the size, shape, and location of any defects within the material.
