Suction Caissons
Suction caissons are large steel cylinders that are used to support offshore structures such as oil platforms. They are installed by pushing them into the seabed until they reach a suitable depth. Once in place, water is pumped out of the caisson, creating a vacuum that causes the caisson to sink further into the seabed and become firmly embedded. The caisson is then filled with ballast to provide additional stability. Suction caissons are commonly used in areas with soft seabeds where traditional pile foundations are not suitable.
