Seamstrap
Seamstrap is a type of reinforcement used in the construction of ships and boats. It is a strip of material, usually made of metal or wood, that is fastened over the seams between planks or plates to provide additional strength and prevent water from entering the vessel. Seamstraps are commonly used in wooden boatbuilding, where they are fastened with copper nails or screws, and in steel shipbuilding, where they are welded in place. They are particularly important in areas of the vessel that are subject to high stress, such as the bow and stern. Seamstraps can also be used to repair damaged planks or plates by covering the damaged area and providing additional support.
