SD (or SID)

SD (or SID) stands for Standard Identification. It is a unique identification number assigned to each ship by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The SD consists of seven digits and remains with the ship throughout its lifetime, regardless of changes in ownership or name. The purpose of the SD is to provide a standardized and internationally recognized means of identifying ships for safety and security purposes. The SD is used in various maritime documents, such as ship registration, safety certificates, and ship security plans.
