Non-compliance
In the maritime context, non-compliance refers to the failure or refusal to adhere to the rules, regulations, and standards set by maritime authorities and international maritime conventions. These rules and regulations are designed to ensure the safety, security, and environmental sustainability of maritime operations. Non-compliance can occur in various aspects of maritime operations, including but not limited to, ship design and construction, navigation and operation, crew training and certification, cargo handling and stowage, and emergency preparedness and response. Non-compliance can result in serious consequences, including accidents, pollution, legal penalties, and damage to reputation. It can also lead to the detention of the ship by port state control authorities. To prevent non-compliance, ship owners, operators, and managers must implement effective compliance management systems, conduct regular audits and inspections, and provide continuous training and education to their crew and staff.
