Net Registered Tonnage

Net Registered Tonnage (NRT) is a measure of a ship's cargo carrying capacity, calculated by subtracting non-revenue-earning spaces such as crew quarters, engine rooms, and navigation areas from the gross registered tonnage (GRT) of a vessel. NRT represents the actual amount of cargo that a ship can carry and is used to determine port fees, taxes, and other charges. It is also used to calculate a ship's operating costs, such as crew wages, insurance premiums, and maintenance expenses. NRT is an important metric for ship owners and operators as it affects the profitability of a vessel and its competitiveness in the market.
