Molded Line

Molded line is the line of a vessel's hull where the external surface of the hull and the waterline intersect, excluding fittings and other appendages. It is the theoretical shape of the hull, as designed by the naval architect, and is used as a reference for determining the vessel's displacement and other hydrostatic properties. The molded line is also used as a reference for measuring the vessel's length overall (LOA) and length between perpendiculars (LBP). It is an important concept in shipbuilding and naval architecture.
