International Regulations For Preventing Collisions At Sea

International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) are rules that govern the conduct of vessels in any condition of visibility. The regulations were designed to prevent collisions between two or more vessels and to ensure that vessels are operated in a safe and responsible manner. The COLREGs specify the lights to be carried by vessels, the signals to be used, the actions to be taken in various situations, and the responsibilities of the vessel's master and crew. The regulations apply to all vessels on the high seas and in all waters connected to the high seas and navigable by seagoing vessels. The COLREGs are recognized by all maritime nations and form the basis for national and international maritime law.
