Hold Fast
Hold Fast is a nautical term that refers to the act of gripping or grasping a fixed object on a ship to maintain balance and avoid falling overboard during rough weather or heavy seas. It can also refer to the act of securing a line or sail in place using a cleat or other fastener. The term is derived from the Old English word 'faesten', meaning to make fast or secure. In addition to being a safety measure, holding fast is also a traditional sailor's superstition that it brings good luck and wards off evil spirits.
