Gross Tons

Gross Tons is a unit of measurement used to calculate the total internal volume of a ship. It includes all enclosed spaces on a vessel, from cargo holds to crew quarters. One Gross Ton is equal to 100 cubic feet or approximately 2.83 cubic meters. Gross Tons are used to determine a ship's carrying capacity, as well as for regulatory purposes such as determining registration fees and safety requirements. It is important to note that Gross Tons are not the same as Weight Tons, which measure a ship's weight and displacement.
