Electronic Chart Display And Information Systems

Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) is a navigation information system used in maritime operations that integrates a variety of real-time information. It is an approved system that uses electronic charts to comply with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations and Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requirements for chart navigation. ECDIS displays the information from Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) and integrates it with other navigational sensors to continuously determine and display the vessel's position. It provides continuous position and navigational safety information, automatically displays important navigational features and information, and allows automatic route planning and monitoring. The system also provides alerts in case of any potential dangers based on the ship's current position and trajectory. ECDIS has significantly improved the safety and efficiency of maritime navigation by reducing the risk of human error and enhancing situational awareness.
