Dugong

Dugong is a large marine mammal found in warm coastal waters from the western Pacific Ocean to the eastern coast of Africa. It is also known as sea cow due to its feeding habits. Dugongs are herbivores and feed on seagrass which grows in shallow coastal waters. They are slow-moving and can stay underwater for up to six minutes. Dugongs are listed as vulnerable species due to habitat loss, hunting, and accidental capture in fishing nets. They play an important role in maintaining the health of seagrass beds and the overall health of the marine ecosystem.
