Abrasive Water Jets

Abrasive water jets (AWJs) are high-pressure water streams that are mixed with abrasive particles and used for cutting, cleaning, and surface preparation in various maritime applications. The abrasive particles, such as garnet or aluminum oxide, are added to the water stream to increase its cutting power and enable it to cut through hard materials like steel, concrete, and rock. AWJs are commonly used in shipyards for cutting and removing old coatings, rust, and marine growth from ship hulls, tanks, and pipes. They are also used for cutting and shaping metal parts, such as propellers and rudders, and for removing damaged sections of ship structures. AWJs offer several advantages over traditional cutting methods, including faster cutting speeds, reduced heat-affected zones, and lower noise and dust levels.
